i am visiting Cleveland to visit Case university, and looking for a 4-5 stars hotel (100-200$ per night max) for 2 nights
i want a hotel in an active area so we can walk, find restaurants nearby, and shop if possible! all within walking distance

The best hotel in town is the Ritz-Carlton. It's definitely 5 stars. It's in the heart of downtown and much of what downtown has to offer is within a 1/2 mile of it.

The Hyatt at the Arcade is 4-5 stars. Same deal. Very cool architecture.

The Renaissance is also 4-5 stars. Same deal. Very close to the Ritz.

The Marriott is 4 stars. Same deal but a little farther east.

Any of them should suit you fine.

There are also a slew of 3-4 star places that will be clean and comfortable though they may not have an on-site restaurant. This would likely not be that necessary for you as there are plenty of good places to eat nearby.

If you're looking to stay closer to Case, I would suggest the Intercontinental at the Cleveland Clinic.

BIG TIP HERE:

Book on HOTWIRE and the Hyatt Arcade (built 1890 -- it's a GEM) is the 3.5 star hotel listed as Downtown. This is no average Hyatt, and it only listed as 3.5 because it doesn't have a pool. Your room will be less that $80 a night via hotwire. www.hotwire.com

Not to mention, the area is perfect for what you're looking for: E. 4th street is next door with some top Cleveland restuarants including Chinato, La Strada, Greenhouse Tavern, and Iron Chief Michael Symon's place "Lola." Tower City mall is also 2 blocks away, but the best shopping in Cleveland is in the suburbs.

just curious as to where you are getting your "stars" from.... without a doubt, the ritz is the best in cleveland, but according to Mobil and AAA, its 4 star.

^^ I agree. the top hotels in Cleveland are the Ritz-Carlton and the Renaissance

And the Intercontinental at the Cleveland Clinic is 4.5 stars, but the area is not what I would consider "walkable"

EDIT: and I'm guessing you won't have a car. Any of these hotels listed above are all along what's known as the "Healthline" or Euclid Corridor, which will take you right to Case campus.

Star ratings are based on comfort and, mostly, amenities. Not what AAA says.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_(classification)

The Ritz-Carlton has all of these amenities. I don't really care what AAA or Mobil says. I've stayed in supposed 4 and 5 stars locations (per their rating) that were 3 stars at best. Go stay at the Ritz and see for yourself.

Exactly. And, for someone like myself (and many others) who couldn't care less about a pool, the hotel is every bit a 4+ star hotel.

thank you for your valuable input, i have reviewed hotel reviews in hotels.com and i picked Hyatt Regency Cleveland At The Arcade, since it has a reasonable price 161$ and least negative comments!

^PERFECT CHOICE.

We're you able to book through Hotwire to save money? Or did you end up going through the hotel website?

Wondering that myself. Doesn't it just list "HOTEL NEAR DOWNTOWN"?
