All my other beach vacations you just walk out on the beach and there are rows of preplaced umbrellas and chairs and a guy takes your money and reserves your place for however many days you want it. There are storage bins for all this on the beach so they can be locked up each night.
We walked out to Atlanta Beach after we unpacked expecting to find the same thing and NOTHING. So everybody is schlepping their chairs and umbreallas themselves. I was very disappointed and we ended up wasting a big hunk of one day trying to find chairs of a decent cost that were not too close to the ground (arthritis makes low chairs impossible).
Is there not enough business to have the rentals we are used to? is there a NC beach where we can find what we are looking for without having to buy or bring our own stuff?
Most of the chair rental places that are on other beaches are in conjunction with a hotel/ major complex in the area. Place at the Beach III used to have chair and umbrella rental services back in the day, not sure if they still do. I think there was a Sheraton out there that did rentals and chair set up too.
I know that there are some Realtors that can set up rentals with chairs and such, but not sure if that's an option for you. There are also some rental services that you can call and they'll set them up each day, sadly I do not know of any in the AB area. You could probably just search for "atlantic beach nc chair rental" and come up with a few, not sure if these would set them up for you on the beach though, I'm guessing they'd just drop them off at your rental.
I was on the beach last Saturday and it was pretty windy. Some people had umbrellas, and one very large one got loose and blew down the beach hitting several people. I was sitting near an 8 or 9 year old girl who got hit in the head by it. How traumatic.
Umbrellas on a windy day.....very bad idea. I never use them.
To answer your question, I don't know of any beaches in NC with rentals on the beach. It would be a good business to start I guess lol. It would make things easier than carrying everything!
I have a beach chair that has a shoulder strap for easier carrying - bought it at walmart for $20. I'm a local though and will get my use out of it.

The big reason you don't see those on Atlantic beach is the same reason you don't see very many hotels right on the beach. We don't like them.
Also, by N.C. law, no one an own the beach, it belongs to the public. Most hotels will not build on a beach they can not own---doesn't hurt my feelings a bit. Also, the major draw to the N.C. coast is fishing, if you're gonna get a suntan, most folks here get one while fishing. You probably noticed, the beaches are largely empty. Most of us kinda like it that way. If you like crowds, go to S. Carolina.
We were at Carolina Beach last weekend, and I was amazed to see a guy in a souped up golf cart with rental umbrellas and chairs! The rentals exisit at Carolina Beach, apparently.
I was actually up at AB this past week and saw that there are chairs and umbrellas for rent at the public access near the pier. They set them out around 9am, not sure about price, and they don't go where you want them, but they are pre-assembled chairs and umbrellas.
There are companies like Beach Wheels Rentals who bring you chairs and umbrellas. We used them and it was great they dropped off the chairs and picked them up when we were done. there are a few companies i believe another one is called beach gear
