Hi y'all. I currently live in a northern county in NC and am looking to locate to coastal NC. I'm just starting a family and wonder if Whiteville is a good small town to raise a family and work. I'm a teacher, so that's what I will be looking for. Does anyone know what Columbus county and surrounding school districts are like? Thanks for any information. God bless.
well, it may be right up your alley to live next to a prison. as long as you know what you're getting into.
where i'm from, it was a mountain of out-of-state garbage you had to live next to. i personally prefer places where the county or city supports itself on something besides the importation of another city's problems. a lot of these rural areas just need the money because their citizens can't create wealth themselves, in other ways.

In the ideal situation, it would be great for every town to be self-sufficient. In poverty stricken areas it is hard for wealth to be generated when their isn't something of demand to be sold and produced. By bringing in a prison, that will add jobs, which means that residents of the area will have money to spend within the community. It's a least a start. Education and infrastructure are key to building a community. I enjoy teaching in hard hit areas because I feel like I'm making a bigger impact.
