Greetings! My wife and I are considering a potential move to the outer banks, and while there are plenty of other dimensions to the decision which I feel like we've got a solid handle on, one question I'm naive to the best way to answer is: how does one track down long term rental properties (year round leases) in the outer banks? We've been vacationing there for years, but of course finding weekly rentals out there is so easy that it doesn't require much skilled hunting.

Now we find ourselves trying to investigate much more specific needs. If we elected to move, we'd ideally like to live in a free standing home (not a condo or townhouse) with three or four bedrooms located as close as possible to the Outer Banks Hospital / Outer Banks Mall area. I've poked around a little on the web so far, and noticed that even the very large real estate sites only seem to have a small handful of long term rentals (makes sense, considering how much more profitable vacation renting is) and so far I've found none of those in the area we're most interested in.

Is it possible to rent long term in Nags Head, near the hospital?

What are the best ways to look for long term rentals in the OBX?

Which real estate companies have long term, year round residents had positive or negative experiences with?

Thanks in advance for your valued feedback.

I have heard that the newspaper is a better option. We are visiting the area as well and haven't been able to find anything that really fits our needs as well yet. If you go onto the OBC message board, you may get more suggestions.

Thanks very much! I will post something similar over there as well. Since citydata gets squirrely about any discussion related to other forum sites though, please feel free to directly message me about any other resources you might recommend.
