Thats refreshing, I have been researching for a long time and most of the places are very dangerous and I am used to a small town that has very little-petty crime.

I am assuming that NC is pretty flat, does that mean that MHC is pretty bike friendly? Other than to work sometimes I like to ride my bike everywhere, its fun and a workout!

There is a sidewalk on the south side of the main road in MHD from the intersection of HWYS 70 & 24 all the way to the state port. Approx. 5 miles in length. You can walk, run, bike anywhere MHD.
Bridges St. which runs parallel to the main road has a bike path.
Cross the High Rise bridge and there are bike path's all over Atlantic Beach.

I have lived and worked in both areas. New Bern first, and when i took a ride out to MHC a few months later I kicked myself. Currently I'm living in Newport, sweet town, great schools, very much a small town flavor. Newport gives you access to the beaches, boating, shopping and fun. I vote you drive out and visit.

Default Morehead vs. New Bern?

Regarding dog activities, here is Morehead info:
--Next door Atlantic beach has Fort Macon State Park with a fantastic beach for dog-lovers. N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation: - Welcome to Fort Macon State Park

--There are parks, doggie daycare, and several vets including night and weekend emergency vet care. It's smaller and easier ro find open areas for the pet-friendly folks, in my opinion.

Other Morehead City highlights:
- Shopping in Beaufort's unique shops and boutiques just across the bridge from Morehead.
- Watching dolphins in the Altantic just a few miles away. At Fort Macon's public beach we have seen dolphins in the distance.
- Boating to tour the nearby Cape Lookout Lighthouse.
- Welcome friendliness of the area.

Tourist season offers lots of seasonal jobs for decent pay. Off season, there isn't nearly as much activity.

New Bern is bigger, does have a nice dog park, and has more small city things to do. There's a park overlooking the water in New Bern, although it's not the same as being along the ocean.

What I am looking for:
- Place to meet people. I am single and although I do not bar hop, I still want to be able to meet people around my age.
- Cheap rent (400-600 range) which would either be a 1 bed apt or even a room in a house.
- Dog friendly!

Other than these qualifications, both towns have what I am looking for. I just need direction in picking the right town for me!

Thanks for all the help (in advance).
Neither. Both New Bern and Morehead are for the elderly population (60 plus). I would not willfully choose to live in either. You would be far better off moving to Wilmington. I currently live in New Bern and it is awful here. It is quite depressing, really.

I too am thinking of relocating to Morehead area. Anyone have any input on a area named "Bogue Watch"?

I have lived in both New Bern and Morehead and love them both. For a young person I would choose Morehead City. New BERN does have a dog park; all the beaches allow dogs on leash (though in the off season we can usually find a stretch of beach where no people are so can let ours run)

Bogue Watch and neighboring Cannons Gate are developments that had a lot of money poured into but fell victim to lawsuits and declining market. I think between these two developments there are 1 maybe 2 homes built.

Just curious, did you ever move to MHC or New Bern?? My husband and I are currently debating between the two also. Would love your insight!
