To answer an earlier question, YES, anywhere near the coast, never mind right ON the coast like Morehead City, is going to be a great place for biking!
New Bern is a historic area and, despite the names, more of a "city". Note that Morehead is effectively "the beach" and thus has the ups and downs of a resort/vacation town, plus storm worries. New Bern is a little farther inland and not a "beach town", whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. But it's still an easy drive to the beach any time you want.
Neither is what I would call a very exciting place other than beach sorts of things, but that may be what you want.
