I just did an interview for my radio show with Captain Ned Ashbey of Sea Breeze Sportfishing out of Oregon Inlet. They landed a 805lb. bluefin tuna last Saturday.
It was a two hour fight. The fish was tail wrapped. Bluefins sound (Dive) when hooked. This fish was caught in 300 fathoms of water so they (Angler & boat) had a lot of pulling up to do.
Here's a brief, rough cut video I shot during the Tag a Giant Bluefin Tuna Conservation series of an approx. 775 pounder being tagged and released. It was so heavy the researchers couldn't turn the fish around to release it head first.
A must see mini-documentary on bluefin tuna. This is in my opinion the single best presentation on bluefins. At around the 10:14 mark it highlights North Carolina and the documented migration patterns they take across the Atlantic. I shot the Atlantic footage.
Richard,
The only thing I said in the other post that you claim to be a complaint: "Heads up everyone! I consider this a must read if you care about fresh, locally caught seafood and our coastal communities"
Where is the "complaint" as you call it?
The name of the article (Not titled by me-but by the author) that was posted was://www.city-data.com/forum/coast...tead-food.html
I highly encourage everyone to read it. A small band of angry ardent anglers is attempting to ban certain locally caught seafood.
What do you know about the NC charter fleet and the bluefin tuna fishery? Are you aware that a properly licensed charter can keep a trophy fish at certain times of the year? Are you aware that they can sell that fish during certain times of the year? (Yep-Bluefin tuna is a highly prized seafood) Are you aware that at all other times it is a catch and release fishery? Are you aware that this particular bluefin would have been released except it became tail wrapped in the line and died? Are you aware that the Charter fishing industry in NC is in reality commercial fishing and is probably to be reclassified as such?
All rhetorical questions of course. But this question isn't. What got your dander up Richard. Why did you take two seperate posts and try to play "Gotcha"
