My husband and I would like to relocate to North Carolina. I have read some of the other posts and the New Bern area seems nice. I need recommendations for a nice family neighborhood with good high school. I also wouldnt mind the Pinehurst area, if anyone knows where is good for family/school. I appreciate the input.

New Bern High School is not a good high school. It was average many years ago but not today. It is filthy/nasty/overrun by getto type individuals. The curriculum itself is not great either. You might consider Cary (Green Hope and Panther Creek High Schools) or Chapel Hill areas for family oriented towns with great schools.

You need to checkout Cape Carteret, very family friendly, as far as, having plenty of parks on the water, boat ramp, library, bowling alley and arcade, walking and biking areas, and best High School in area...

Do you have a job lined up? If not, what industry are you in? Big mistake to move to NC right now unless you have at least one job in the bag...competition for open positions is as high as it's ever been. Where you can find a job would, of course, influence where you will live.

OP, you can get a lot more info on New Bern in this thread, including more objective opinions on the high school. Also note sammynewberns post there. He's definitely not someone who's advice I'd consider.

I agree, don't listen to sammynewbern. He seems to be a very angry young man. Do a search on here and you will get the info you need.

I have had two kids graduate from New High School. Both got in the college of their choice. Yes, there are some problems with some of the demographics at New Bern High, but neither of my kids were ever involved or interacted with the troublemakers. If your kid wants to get in trouble, he or she certainly can. If they don't, then they won't. Simple.

New High is not perfect, but is certainly average. There is a lack of AP courses and children are permitted to take only the courses needed to graduate. In other words many seniors only take two courses, and that irks me.

YOu might want to check into Newport. It is 25 or so minutes closer to the beach, adjacent to Morehead CIty (which is turning into a major retail mecca) and the schools are excellent. Newport might be the best kept secret in NC.

Good Luck.
