Hey all, I just moved to Oak Island with my hubby and two elementary age daughters (11 and 8 years old).
I just have a few questions that I hope someone can help out with to help the kiddos feel at home on the island.

Where would be a good place to start looking for piano lessons for my 8 yr old? She's had 1 year of lessons already, though she'd also be interested is learning guitar or violin. Despite whatever she thinks, it's good for her so :P (piano is my pick, the others are hers)

Also, is there a good place to take the kids to meet other kids? What do kids do here (besides go to the beach)? I noticed that there are 3-4 other kids at the bus stop, so there are kids here

Thanks for all of your help!

I think you would get better answers if you reposted the question and made your title very specific. EG, Oak Island, Children, Things To Do. So many people are "new to the area" that it doesn't tell the reader anything that jogs their interest. Good luck.

I found this ad on craigslist. It might be worth a call.

Piano Lessons (http://wilmington.craigslist.org/lss/2644247877.html - broken link)

I'm not sure what there is to do around there for kids. Maybe you could ask at their school? Or ask a neighbor? Good luck!

The recreation center near 31St NE has lots of activities for the kids and they're listed in the Southport Pilot, which comes out on Wednesdays. I know there is Scouting and 4H in the area, also the churches have a lot going on. In the summer they have a program to teach the kids how to sail, and I've seen kid's programs for golf also. You may want to stop in at the library and ask there--they're so friendly and will be glad to help you.
Yes, I live in CT, but have been vacationing there since 1989, and plan to retire down there in the next 2 years!! Hope I've helped.

Thank you goldenage, you are right, it's a pretty generic title. We have found that there a quite a few kids in the area which is fantastic! After watching the parade on Saturday my daughter wants to give scouting a chance and thinks the marching band and JROTC are the coolest things ever (I know she's only 8, but at least she's excited) We haven't made it to the library yet, but we will bike our butts down there soon, I hadn't thought of that for local activities, t hanks :-)
