I'd add Calabash/Sunset Beach, and Wrightsville Beach is nice off season.

MOrehead City/Beaufort Atlantic Beach area are nice. Aquarium, Maritime Museum and Fort Macon all cool. Nice beaches easy to get to. Bear Island/Hammocks Beach State Park an unspoiled barrier island is also nice. Further south Topsail but not a fan as much of Topsail but others like it. Of course all of the beaches around Wilmington.

Smile Vacation information for Emerald Isle

I live just a few minutes from the beaches of Emerald Isle. I spend much of my time either walking on the beach or boating and kayaking on area waters. I try to keep an up to date travel guide for visitors since so many people ask me about visiting the area.

I have no business interest in anything in the area so my recommendations are based only on the personal experiences of my wife and myself.

My 2012 Emerald Isle Travel Guide also includes lots of links to other information about things to do along the Crystal Coast. There is even a link to a PDF map of the area and some of my favorite things.

If a restaurant is on my list, we have eaten there and been back at least once. If it is not there, we have tried it and didn't like it or have found the prices even higher than what is normal for the area.

My only goal with the guide is to help people have a good time when visiting Emerald Isle.

Ocean Isle & Holden Beach good family beaches and Holden Beach has repeatedly been ranked in the Top Ten of U.S. Beaches (National Geographic Travelers Magazine), and as the #1 in U. S. Family Beaches (by Dr. Leatherman, Director, Laboratory of Coastal Research, Floridal International Univesity, in artcle in the American Profile Magazine, April 2012)
