Kiddo, I am not a troll, just telling things like they are. Admission standards on paper have done nothing for the image that the rest of the state has of ECU. The administration has done nothing to attempt to curtail that image either. In some circles (elsewhere in the state; some people leave Pitt County once in awhile you know) it's pretty damn embarrassing to say you went to ECU.
Bulll freaking S. They absolutely have done things to change the image from yesteryear. You attempting to say that statement as fact, gives me all I need to know about you. You are absolutely clueless on another topic. Congrats!

If only I were the clueless one here.
The first thing that comes to my mind is that MTV special about sex. The most embarassing thing I've seen in a long time related to ECU, and it was only six months or so ago. Greenlighted by top brass at ECU. That's an image builder? Western Carolina has more self-respect than that!
The subject of the thread has nothing to do with ECU's image. The statistics for admission rates are hard facts. Your talk about image is nonsense. How do you measure a schools image? You are also highly over exaggerating this. I'm not embarrassed one bit to be a part of ECU. Do you think the man controlling the NASA space vehicle on mars is embarrassed of his degree from ECU?
I am certain he would be embarrassed at your use of the term "space vehicle.". Unless his name is Buck Rogers.

That was the worst thing I have seen them do or allow. I still can't believe that was green lighted by ECU.
Wow, it's always been interesting to me to see how ECU is perceived to be a second rate or party school within the state of NC. Yet from all my travels and positions in the "working world" this is never mentioned. I went to ECU as an out of state student not knowing this perception and was very impressed with my education there. It certainly hasn't held me back from anything, that's for sure.
It's the opposite of UNC which in North Carolina is perceived as this unparalleled school but outside North Carolina it's perceived as just another average state school with a good basketball team (at least it was where I grew up.) It's so fascinating. I think the people of North Carolina do a disservice to their educational system when they denigrate their schools like this (all their "second rate" schools, not just ECU) it just promotes this perception that unless you went to UNC the people of NC are stupid rednecks which isn't even remotely the truth.
That's not really true at all. Most NC natives think Carolina's for the wine and cheese crowd. State's a cow college, and ECU's where your kid's 3rd grade teacher got drunk for four years before being hired as a taxpayer-funded babysitter.
For reals though outside a handful of jobs (mostly legal and finance) where you went to school doesn't matter much at all. Some employers tend to do a lot of recruiting at a handful of schools due to previous networking, but that's about it.

HA! Regardless, running down your state's schools for whatever reason doesn't help your state's overall perception.
And I totally agree, for the vast majority of careers, where you went to school matters little.

Duke is puke
Wake is fake
And the team I hate is NC State
Our complaints don't stem from the perceived academic quality or lack thereof; it's mostly sports rivalries, with a subtle dash of socioeconomic background. Shoot, I went to Carolina for undergrad and State for grad school; I'm an apostate to almost my entire family, depending on whose house I'm at on a given day.
Can't go to heaven in a red canoe
cuz God's favorite color is Carolina Blue
