I've been chatting with the webmaster of a site called Sick Properties that talks about various hazards and problems with properties associated with chemical exposure, mold, fungus, etc. Hopefully our daughter's school in Durham is up for being featured next. We've had significant medical problems since she was enrolled, as have other parents, and we think it's due to "sick school syndrome". The current site featured is a condo being built on a chemical storage site that has been an active chemical distillery since the Civil War up to the 1990's. If you're thinking of investing in real estate in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina, or of visiting there (though it is a pretty nice town otherwise), the site is worth a read for the info. http://www.sickproperties.com (broken link)

I would recommend some of downtown Wilmington's other features if you're just looking to visit. The horse drawn trolley tour past all the historic churches is definitely worth seeing, and we enjoyed the Battleship North Carolina a lot. That's a good bargain for a half-day family tour in Wilmington.
