I'm graduating from Clemson next month and I'm going to be spending 9 months in Wilmington starting in January as part of a job training program. I've been to Wilmington before and know a little bit about the area but what I don't know is what areas would be a good place for a 22 year old to live (aka not too expensive). I've also heard that some areas in Wilmington have problems with crime. Any areas that I should avoid or areas I should look at that are relatively safe?
If you look at apartments within a mile or two of College Road, you will be in areas with plenty of students. These areas are reasonably safe. I'd suggest living east of 17th Street, as the the crime problems have mostly been in low income areas which ring the downtown. It is safe enough to go downtown for entertainment with a group.
