Does anyone know what areas of NC allow driving on the beach? I'm particularly interested in those areas near or east of Wilmington. Also if it is allowed, what seasons are allowable for driving, and is it limited to county residents? Are permits required? Thanks!

Northend of Carolina Beach allows cars on the beach, permit required. It is a pretty big party area, with folks having pizza and even beer delivered.

Fort Fisher also allows cars on the beach, but no alcohol is allowed. No permit is required but I believe there is a fee. Suffice to say it is a bit more family oriented.

Topsail Beach allows driving by visitors in October through end of March. Permits are $25. Details here: Topsail Beach North Carolina > Visitors > Beach Driving permits It is mainly used by fishermen for surf fishing.

Each town has its own permit system, so check each you are interested in. Here's some info on alcohol and dog rules: http://www.starnewsonline.com/articl...EACH/130419878
