I was in a crash on Catfish Lake Road in October 2010. I believe the cop told me the speed limit is 50 mph or something like that, but I was doing no more than 40 mph. It was daytime, no rain, and I was not distracted or drunk. The cause of the accident was a tire blowout, which is weird because my tires were only a few months old and were very high quality tires (I guess it must have been a sharp rock or something). My car flipped 2.5 times and landed on its side in the water. I had to climb out of the side window. Luckily I was fine besides a few scratches on my arms from the broken glass. My cell phone wasn't getting reception out there in the middle of nowhere, but after a few minutes two Marines in a truck drove by and called 911 (thank you!!!).

The only reason I was on that road was because I was going from Jacksonville to Cherry Point and Google Maps told me to go that way. I didn't realize it was going to be a dirt road (and it actually isn't for the first part of it) or what its reputation was. Afterwards, I contacted Google Maps and they agreed to change it so that it will not tell you to take that road unless a point on that road is your destination. I was hoping I could save some lives by doing that, but it seems people are still crashing on that road.

Just stumbled upon this site and thread after visiting Catfish Lake Road for the first time in a couple years today... I can’t speak for everyone’s claims about the speed limit of the road back in 2014 and prior, but there’s multiple speed limit signs on the road as of April 2021 that state “35 MPH Entire Road” and it’s pretty well maintained and smooth. Drove it in my little coupe, no problems. Drove probably roughly 35-40 mph the whole time, broad daylight though.
