I accepted a position at CarolinaEast which came with a hefty pay raise. Long story short, we will be living in a new development in James City, between Taberna and Carolina Colours, and close to Creekside Elementary. The school was the main reason we looked at this area as we have a two and half year old. I know this forum is split between liking/dislike New Bern, but that is beside the point. We are looking for ideas and events for families and young children. Specifically gyms, child care, dance/tumbling... My job is one in which I can move easily so if it doesn't work we aren't opposed to moving. Thanks so much for any help/advice

New Bern is a lot better than the "me generation" thinks. It is not NYC or Atlanta or Charlotte, but for a small city of 25 or so thousand, it has a lot going on.

Many things revolve around the water. I see lots of middle schoolers with "Cheer" and "Dance" tee shirts so I ass/u/me that kind of stuff must be plentiful.

Hope it works out. Sorry you did not bring your energy to some of the historic areas, we need younger folks picking up the slack in these wonderful and convenient areas.

Front porches are way under appreciated.

Welcome.

I agree LLN... about the downtown area. We have "a lot" going on, if you close your eyes... just kidding.

Well,

First let me say that I have been very "critical" of "the Bern" and if you search around, you will see my "discontent."

However, I think as long as you immerse yourself into the community, you will do fine. Creekside has a very good reputation and if I had known about it when we first moved here, my son would have finished elementary there. (I think we may be neighbors)

LLN is very correct about living downtown. It has a nice feel to it and is very nice to "hang out" there.

Driving into town from the CC area can be a drag, because EVERYTHING happens "in town." But - you ARE 15 minutes closer to the beach! LOL

I hope you are planning to rent? Our area you speak of is very, very military and therefore transient. - The neighborhood was full of kids my kids age when we first moved here... then "poof!" they were gone!

There are those things you speak of, dance/tumbling etc... but again, you will have to drive either into town or the opposite direction to Havelock.

Oh, one last thing, I am sure you were told there was going to be a Harris Teeter built there at the entrance to CC... <laugh> We came here over 4 years ago and we were told then, "It will be built in the spring." They just failed to mention the spring of WHICH year! From what I understand that store has been promised for years....

We need more young professionals like yourself!
