Publix is coming to New Bern at the intersection of South Glenburnie Road and Yarmouth Road. It purchased the site previously occupied by Super China Buffet at 2000 South Glenburnie Road, New Bern, North Carolina 28562-5227 where it plans to open a 49,000 square feet store.

A 49,000 square feet Publix would not fit on the site of a former restaurant alone. Adjacent buildings surrounding the former Super China Buffet would be demolished to make way for the new store.

Right across from Teeter? Doesn't make much sense!

Greenville's Bells Fork area has a Teeter and a Food Lion across the street from one another (and they're both doing very well), with a Walmart Market about to open nearby; plus the rumors of Publix looking to build in the same area. Retailers open where the money is, so it makes sense - and dollars.

I would opine that the money would be across the Trent River, Taberna, Carolina Colors, Brices Creek, etc., but what do I know!

Funny you mention that. Harris Teeter put up a "committed and coming" sign at Carolina Colors years ago and has yet to break ground there.

I'm shocked that Publix is coming to NB. I'm looking forward to it! I'm so over HT. The NB location has been going downhill for years now. They transfer ALL of the good managers to the Morehead location, the produce isn't the freshest, parking is horrible, checkout lines are too long, and the geriatric customers make me want to bang my head against a wall!

Publix's South Glenburnie Road store could help Food Lion #1368, McCarthy Crossing, 3301 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, New Bern, North Carolina 28562-5222, close its doors.

Just in time for my move to the area!!!! Within 2 months i will either be in River Bend or Fairfield Harbour .Made an offer on a home in Fairfield but the owner won't budge.I guess that is why the home has been listed for a year. She doesn't understand recently sold homes comparable to hers and what the sold for and were appraised for.Oh well on to the next home we like

Publix will likely open after you move to New Bern. Demolishing current buildings, grading the site and constructing the new store could take up to ten months. A 2016 opening would be realistic.

Publix will be expanding well into areas of eastern and coastal North Carolina. At the same time, Harris Teeter, now a division of Kroger, is returning to Greenville, South Carolina and upstate South Carolina.
