You can join Star Hill Golf course here in Cape Careteret...They have special that I think runs thru July 1st....Pay $1500 for fifteen months membership, and you get unlimited golf after 1pm and use of the pool...pretty sweet deal for a 27 hole golf course....kept in immaculate condition...
The course has no goat paths, all concrete cart paths...Nice pro shop, the club is across the drive....and it has the Star Hill Grill downstairs...
Dude, please stop...this person is asking about New Bern...not swansboro!
I would also pick CC because of the trees as another poster stated. However, Brices Creek IMO is the best area in New Bern. When I say Brices Creek, I don't mean the one down Hwy 70 east near CC and Taberna..I mean the real Brices Creek along the Trent River directly across from Trent Woods. This is a great area! Just stop by Merchants...the local store...and you will know you are home!
Both Carolina Colours and Taberna are quality developments. However, there are differences. Colours is under development, while Taberna is fully sold out (by the developer). The main difference is twofold. Colours is focused on community, and all its amenities, other than golf, are available to all its property owners. This includes its clubhouse (Pavilion), which includes a sports bar and a tavern, as well as meeting, banquet and card rooms. There is no clubhouse for the community in Taberna, rather the rather small pro shop/clubhouse is available for use by golf club owners only.
The second major difference is the land itself. Colours is much more wooded and features more rolling landscapes. Brice Creek also meanders through Colours.
The nice Taberna golf course is up and running, and is privately owned and operated. The Carolina Colours golf course is nearing completion, and will be member owned. Both are quality layouts, the best in the central coastal region of NC.
Carolina Colours has fiber optic service to each home, which Taberna does not, but all of Taberna's amenties are complete, even though the pool and tennis facilities are club owned and available only to club members. The pool and tennis facilities at Carolina Colours are not yet constructed, but will be available to all property owners when constructed. Fitness equipment is now available at Carolina Colours, not at Taberna.
New Bern is a great place to live. Looking at the attributes of both Carolina Colours and Taberna before making a life style decision is the only prudent course of action to take.
Just so you know, here are comments from "locals" in the paper about the huge increase in water rates, recently voted by the local mayor/aldermen. We got the same reaction following the huge electric increase:
The people building in Carolina Colours should pay the extra for their own extra needs - they certainly have the money if they are building there in the first place. I think it's a total joke that CC and Taberna are even in the city limits. Makes no sense for the whole city to pay for it for them. I can agree Township 7 has some needs, but since when are we in the city? Our county sewer comes from the city (and it is not cheap!) but our water supply is county. Country life is looking better and better.
Increased tap on fees only affect new construction so yes Carolina Colors is paying their way. As for the increased water bills, thank Raleigh. they are the ones that gave an UNFUNDED mandate that made New Bern change Aquifers that caused infrastructure to be built as well and more treatment since the water wasn't pure enough. I don't like it any more than anybody else, but it is not the Aldermen's fault
The people in Carolina-I-can't-spell-Colours will be able to afford this rate hike real easy. Real folks who are living on fixed incomes, don't have fancy homes, and lots of tough bills to pay, THEY'RE the ones who have to feel another slap in the face from their local gov't. They couldn't do this 2 years ago, they said because times were bad? Well, they're a whole lot worse now the last time I checked, so now it's ok? The logic of New Bern and Craven County never ceases to amaze me.
And Trent Woods is a lot more part of New Bern than Taberna or Carolina-I-can't-spell-Colours is. I don't care what piece of paper says otherwise.
Carolina Colours was on the top of our lists as was Taberna, guess you could find many compelling reasons for moving or not moving to either place, but this has been good for me too read the postings. now i'm wondering about Cary/Raleigh area or New Bern. Still leaning towards CC. Still have a 2 year wait and i'm heading to NC.
I am the developer of Carolina Colours, and I post this reply to correct some mis-information that has been posted regarding Carolina Colours. ALL roads and sewer lines, and related infrastructure were paid for by the developer; the city did not participate financially directly or indirectly. We also gave to New Bern the site for the water tower that was installed to service all of this area. In no way does the existence of Carolina Colours impact the electrical rates of New Bern in a negative way; just the opposite is true. With more than 150 constructed homes (and many more under construction), as well as a large community club house, a swimming pool and tennis courts, tens of thousands of dollars a year are paid to New Bern in electric bills, reducing the burden on all city users. The rates are primarily based on long standing system debt, and the only way to positively impact rates is to add customers.
Taberna and Carolina Colours are good communities, with many fine and happy residents. The primary difference is that in Taberna, the primary amenities (golf, tennis, swimming, clubhouse) are third party owned, while in Carolina Colours the Colours Owners Association owns (debt free) the swimming pool, clubhouse and tennis courts, while the golf course is equity owned by its members and the developer. Therefore, all property owners in Carolina Colours have access without additional payment to all of its amenities except golf, while in Taberna one must join the club to have access to the amenities. Currently, the Taberna amenities are owned by its lender, and will likely soon be for sale. Whether or not the Taberna owners join together to purchase these amenities is uncertain at present.

Five years later your opinion on CC pulling its weight IRT ELECTRICITY might be true. Not the case in 2007 - 2009. Wholeheartedly agree, however, the more homes, that is occupied homes, the better for all of us.
