Brunswick County may be seeing activity with supermarkets and various grocery format stores proceeding with new stores or store improvements. It is currently served by supermarkets Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Lowe's Foods and Piggly Wiggly, hypermarket Walmart Supercenter, and some small format independent grocers including Hill's.
Aldi
Germany-based discount grocer Aldi plans on a 19,000 square feet store at the southwest corner of Ocean Highway and Ploof Road in Leland.
Lowe's Foods
Winston-Salem-based supermarket Lowe's Foods is opening a store at 211 Midway Commons in Oak Island.
Publix
Lakeland, Florida-based supermarket Publix may be expanding into Brunswick County. Its first Brunswick County store may be at Oak Island Marketplace in Oak Island. ("Oak Island Marketplace, Oak Island, North Carolina.") Two additional Brunswick County stores may be planned. One of those stores may be in Ocean Isle Beach on Beach Drive Southwest across from the airport.
Plenty in Wilmington - Fresh Market, TJ's, Lovey's, Wholefoods. Most of the grocers in our area, Lowes Foods, Food Lion and Harris Teeter and even Walmart all have organic. Also, on Oak Island there's a wonderful new store - Maters and Taters, right next to Island Healing on Oak Island Drive. Haven't been yet but heard great things about it.
The new Lowes Foods store in the 211 Midway Commons shopping center is to open in May, according to the developer's website: http://wakefieldassociates.net/projects/
I have found no information regarding the continuation of the existing Lowes on what is now Old Long Beach Road in Southport.

Reason: URL edit
The new Lowe's Foods at 211 Midway Commons may be close enough to Live Oak Village to replace store 201.
I would think the Lowe's Food in Shallotte might close after the Midway store opens this spring? I have no "inside" information on the Lowe's Food in Shallotte, but there is a lot of empty floor space in that location. It doesn't have much foot traffic when I have been in that location.
I would think a Publix at OIB airport would be very successful operation.
Lowe's Foods #200, Shallotte Commons, 5051-3 Main Street, Shallotte, North Carolina 28470-4489
Lowe's Foods #200 serves a different trade area than store 201 serves and the new 211 Midway Commons store may serve. Has store 200 struggled lately?
