I went exploring the yard this morning and found the scrubby trees that are the source of much of the pollen dusting my car. It is the Common Sweetleaf presented in the photos below.

Actually the yellow pollen you see is mostly from pines. On windy days you can actually see it coming off the trees in clouds.

Yes it is DEFINITELY pine pollen. I hate them - they're ugly and provide no shade, only needles and pollen - both allergy killers.

There's all kindsa pollen right now. The sweetgums have been dropping pollen bombs on my deck. The pines are coming out and the oaks, too.

All that pollen crap is about the only thing that I don't miss about living in NC. I used to wash my car off and about 5 minutes later, it looks like I never touched it. Surprisingy, I haven't noticed much pollen in southside Virginia since we moved here in 2009. A little falls now and then, but there aren't any "yellow blizzards" here. That's about the only good thing I can say about this place, but that's a whole different story...
