We both work in the cell phone industry ..I work for US Cellular and she works for Sprint..We currently reside in Wisconsin (yuck) and finally want to move out by next year. When we sell our house we will have about 40-50k to put down on a new one, but our plan is to rent a house for the 1st year and then buy.

Here's the problem..We have been talking about moving to N carolina for years...But her mom and brother just recently moved to Tampa FL, and ever since then my wife keeps talking about Florida. Keep in mind I told her a while back FLORIDA AND CALIFORNIA are the 2 states I DO NOT want to move to. And she at that time agreed...

So we are planning to visit N Carolina in April to check out the area..My question is..What cities/areas should we visit? We want to live MAX 20-30 mins away from the beach...I want her to LOVE this area but I am afraid she will just convince herself to hate it due to wanting to move to Florida...I would appreciate some input, don't want to take her to areas where its run down and all..Shes all about Palm trees and all about the beach scene!! Thanks

Faced with the same problem, we picked Sunset Beach, right on the NC/SC line. We have a 3 BR 1500ft Condo, 3 minutes from the beach. Ocean Isle is nice also, but both are pretty quiet in the winter.

I'd suggest Wilmington and the area around it.

Not a lot in Hampstead. 20-30 minutes into Wilmington for most things.

I wish people, various organizations and magazines would stop plugging Sunset Beach NC. It's starting to look like Coney Island or Miami Beach on summer weekends. It is being loved to death!
