Looking for a waterfront coastal area or sound area to move to next summer. We r a young retired couple who still like a big town feel. Would prefer to be away from the tourist areas. A subdivision on the water is a plus.
Wilmington, NC comes to mind. It's a good-sized waterfront city and a college town with Wrightsville Beach nearby. Tons of active adult communities around, especially in nearby Leland. The older upscale community of Landfall is very close to both the downtown and the beach and has waterfront properties. We like the website carolinaplantations.com because they have descriptions and videos of many of the different communities as well as real estate listings. We actually toured several communities with one of their agents and it was VERY helpful!
If you'd consider South Carolina, there are tons of waterfront communities near Charleston/Summerfield/Isle of Palms, and Hilton Head/Bluffton, not far from Savannah. Also NORTH Myrtle Beach - not so touristy but close to a lot of activities and attractions.
Thank you. I'm trying to staying within a few hrs of the Virginia Beach area on the North Carolina side. And yes my first choice would have been in S. Carolina! Love all the coastal areas in SC
How do you define a "big town feel"? And what is "a few hours"? Wilmington is the largest coastal city in NC, and it's not a big city, imo. New Bern may your bet if you must be within 3 hours or so of Hampton Roads. But it's not very big, maybe 40,000?
Echo that about Wilmington being your best bet but not within your 3 hour range of Va. Beach. Do you currently live in Va. Beach? It's going to give you a much bigger town feel than the NC coastal towns within 3 hours of there IMO.
