I was supposed to be driving down to Ocracoke tomorrow. Looks like this coming week will be a stay-at-home vacation now.

I heard the rental companies are saying renters don't qualify for insurance refunds.
Sooo let's see. I rent a place for $3000, there is only intermittent power. I want to go home. But you tell me I won't be refunded for the rest of the week?!?!
That's not good business.

That's not true on Ocracoke, Grouse. Ocracoke Realty posted instructions on facebook (and presumably their app, but I'm not renting this week) about how to apply for a trip insurance claim if you were evacuated.

Quote:
For those who purchased Travel Insurance, please visit Trip Preserver™ From Red Sky Travel Insurance and click the “File a claim” in the upper right corner of the screen. You will be filing a trip delay claim for inaccessibility for a reimbursement request of lost time due to the mandatory evacuation order put in place by government officials.
I think the governor declaring a state of emergency probably doesn't hurt, either. It did help them get the generators up there quicker since it waived weight and hours of service restrictions.

....
We received a text message from Ocracoke Realty Thurs. night informing us of the evacuation and also how to make a claim for either a partial or full loss of our rental there for the upcoming week. We should have been starting our rental today (Sat 7/30), so at the very least we're going to have a partial loss. Figure by Tues or so, it won't be worth the trip to make a 10 hour drive for a several-day stay so if we don't hear something positive today, we'll probably be filing a claim for the entire week.

You can bet that the contractor building the Bonner Bridge will be footing the bill for this mess.
