A shame.

We, in New Bern, lost our “real bbq joint” several years ago. Replaced with very nice, clean fast food bbq restaurant.

Just not the same.

I used to eat at Bill's a lot. When Bill passed the quality of the food went downhill quickly.

A year or so ago Bill's son opened a restaurant called Marty's over by Brentwood and it's doing great.

As I understand it, Tracy made sure none of the other family members could get the business and got rid of the long-time cooks after bringing in a manager that had zero clue how to run it. That’s why Lawrence opened Marty’s instead of taking over Bill’s. I think Marty’s opening is what finally put Bill’s (Tracy) out of business. Many of Marty’s customers used to frequent Bill’s. The parking lot is horrendous, though. Lawrence probably has a big grin on his face right now...as he should.

I feel sorry for the employees, since they had no advance warning that Bill’s was shutting down. I thought that was pretty sh*tty.

You understand the same as I understand. If it’s true, karma came home to roost for her.

I’m happy Lawrence’s restaurant is doing so well. I need to get over to Wilson and try it.

I remember eating there a few times growing up. The grandparents loved that place.

The convention center has been sold to Maricruz Peralta of Raleigh for $850,000. The building will remain a convention and event venue, and is expected to reopen this summer as the Royal Blue Convention Center.
