I like Wrightsville and have never had a problem parking there, but I don't go on Memorial Day weekend and under ordinary circumstances, and maybe this year as well, I would expect a holiday weekend to be packed and parking to be tight. I'm not sure what the solution to the parking issue is except maybe you are advocating for tearing down homes and businesses and building massive parking structures? That doesn't sound very nice. I don't want NC beaches to be like Florida beaches or even SC beaches. I'm pretty happy with the low key way they are.
Not sure what this comment is about. This scenario is completely untrue. By law North Carolina beaches are public and anyone can use them. Property owners do not own the beaches.

I just think it's ridiculous that the government allows private operators to charge double the municipal rate for parking when the government has closed down all my tax-funded parking opportunities by placing a red bag over the meters and of course the obligatory 93 fiefdoms overseeing the whole scenario
as someone with a couple decades of Frontline beachfront Park management experience at the public and private level I have a pretty good idea of how to manage Beach visitation and that means having more parking available than what you expect your visitation to be never ever ever ever ever ever closing the majority of your parking over one of the busiest holidays of the year with perfect weather on the horizon

Anyone who lived in the county could buy a year long beach pass for around 25$ per Season
You guys have characters running around Wrightsville Beach charging people $40 a day to park like some kind of third-world Mexican Shakedown is that really the kind of town you want to live in?
I'm usually in the water surfing at 7:30 in the morning to catch the best waves and avoid all the silly tourists but at 8:30 on Saturday this past weekend people were literally fighting over $40 a day parking spots... isn't it illegal to fleece people during a national emergency?
I just visited on Memorial Day weekend and loved the beach, but there was no where to park! I laughed when I read this thread. If it is the same there where i live many northerners move down to the beach with lots of money. It's not all bad, our schools suck and they are slowly changing for the better with all the transplants moving down....
OR... everyone who pays their taxes should have equal acess to a natural resource their taxes fund
You DO have equal "acess" (sic). You just don't have equal parking rights, temporarily, due to a worldwide pandemic. Such is life. Be a good millennial and use Uber.

The OP's analysis might be a little exaggerated, but there is a certain hard to describe snooty factor to Wrightsville that doesn't exist in the same way at Carolina Beach just down the road. Wrightsville feels a little like it's trying to be a wannabe Malibu or something of that nature. Still, the Mercer Pier is an enjoyable place and I've never had any unwelcoming experiences there and I enjoyed my stay during a work conference (back when that was happening) quite a bit.
Nonetheless, Carolina Beach just has a different, more relaxed vibe. It's more of North Carolina's "blue collar" beach, and though there are some newer, expensive homes there, it just strikes me as having less of the NIMBY (Not in My Backyard) crowd than Wrightsville. Though the beach itself is rough to walk on and the water is even rougher.

I have nothing against the tourist trade but it's not my bag
what really ticks me off is the oversaturation and over building
there's nothing more ridiculous than having hundreds and hundreds of parking places that are not available because of bureaucracy not because of logistics
There were hundreds and hundreds spots to park but we as taxpayers were denied acess and were forced to pay double the normal rate if we wanted to surf...

Bro, I paid $1.00, and then $1.00 more for another 30 minutes at the meter. Only stayed 1 hour. I would have stayed longer but it was a last minute trip and did not bring my board, towels, or chairs! We did not even know we would go to the beach, spontaneous. I did not see the $40.00 parking, but I would never pay to park at the beach anyway....
There are other beaches. Perhaps you'd enjoy one of them better.

The minimal payment to the government is perfectly reasonable to use such a nice facility @ 3$hr
the problem is when the government bags all their meters and hands control over to the private purveyors who gouge people like a 3rd world shakedown at 40$ per day as a take it or leave it deal
