Is there anyone on here that is or was recently a customer of The City of Elizabeth City Electric Department? I am trying to find out if their rates are extremely expensive? We are considering buying a house in Elizabeth City (NC) Any information would be helpful!

Just contact the city and ask. Or look at their website:

"The City’s retail rate for residential electric service is $12.48 per month plus 10.94¢ per kWh. Customers can obtain a home’s average kWh usage per month and multiply it by the retail purchase price to determine what an average month’s bill would be."

They are higher than I was used to in FL. My typical winter bill is $260 and summer $170. I live in a 1200 sq ft house and have propane hot water and stove. The utility bill combines water, elec, sewer, and garbage. My water is usually $22. I spoke with a friend from FL recently who was paying $100/month for water alone. While I think the rates here are too high, I commend the people who run it - they restore power quickly and address emergency situations at once. I had them here last week when I saw a heavy limb had fallen on the line going to my house. They were here in 30 minutes, got everything fixed, and hauled off what they cut down.
