I'm 19 years old, and looking to get away from home. To put myself on a firm financial basis for such a move, I realize that I'm going to need a job wherever I decide to go. I've thought about trying to go to a coastal area, like one of the resort-towns in North Carolina or some other state on the eastern seaboard, to see what kinds of jobs might be available.

So far, I've thought of waiting, bartending, being a lifeguard for the beach, and trying to run my own small stand of some sort on a boardwalk or touristy spot. I'm sure that there are other good opportunities, as well. What kinds of jobs (or ways to make a living) can you think of that would be workable in a resort-type city?

You've got some good ideas there. Additional jobs might be pet-sitting, dog-walking, baby-sitting (signing up with a baby-sitting service), tour guide docent, house painter (interiors), and working for a caterer. Fitness instructor if you have some training and experience. Running your own booth on a boardwalk might involve an outlay of cash and licensing expenses...there's always a need for a good, dependable waiter or waitress...bartending might take some experience as summers are very fast-paced.

You might try calling the Chamber of Commerce in the locale where you're thinking of going and asking about the community's needs--or taking a look at the local newspaper on-line and seeing which job categories have the most listings...Google the name of the town and "newspaper" to find the local paper. Good luck to you!

Default Landscaping

Get some mowers and trimmers and you are set. When I moved here 30 years ago, I went to Oak Island in the mornings and worked about 5 hours and came home with $100+ a day. You could do several times that, now. Do things for folks that they don't want to do themselves.
