Yesterday was a beautiful day at the beach.

The water temperature was about 80F and the air temperature was around 84 degrees.

The water is a little stirred up, but it was still really nice wading around in the refreshing salt water.

These beach slides were taken at the 3rd Street Beach Access on Emerald Isle on July 26, 2008.

We spent three years visiting the beach before we made the decision of where to live. Try to come in non-tourist season if you are planning on the area being your home.

The good news is that the beach will still be here. It will be different but we will still be enjoying it. Cape Carteret-Emerald Isle-Swansboro is a great area.

Hanna turned out to not be a problem other than stirring up the waves. We got a two to three ft. storm surge but it came at low tide. We ended up with only one inch of rain from Hanna. Areas of Nova Scotia got more rain from Hanna than we did.

Here are some beach and boating pictures from Labor Day.

Hey David,
We have some friends coming to visit us in Raleigh Oct.8-12th. Since we have only lived here two months, we don't know enough of the beach areas. Your pics are wonderful. Could you suggest a place that two families could stay for a couple of nights at that time?
Thanks,
Marla

The best accommodation site that I know is the Crystal Coast Travel planning one. At that time of the year you might find a couple of condos for two nights at a very reasonable price. Just check with the major rental agencies. You probably won't get the best deals until the weekend before you want to go.

A lot depends on whether you want to be right on the beach or not. If you want to be right on the beach, you might try the Islander in Emerald Isle. I have not stayed there, but the remodeling they have done looks very good. The beach is nice there.

If being on a beach isn't a big a priority, you might want to try Beaufort. You can park your car and walk to everything. Meals are perhaps a little more expensive, but we have always enjoyed staying in the Beaufort Inn. You can easily take a boat shuttle over to the beaches.

For more ideas, try my Emerald Isle (http://coastalnc.org/emeraldislenctravelguidecd - broken link), Beaufort (http://coastalnc.org/beaufortnctravelguidecd - broken link), or Swansboro travel guides.
