Looking to ask some questions to anyone who is in the Coast Guard (or if there spouse is)?

I know there is a base in Elizabeth City, NC.......

Wondering how deployments, time away rotations, and BAH is?

Thanks,

Jen

Hi,

I just retired from the Coast Guard, I can give you some general help, I haven't been stationed at E-city, but that's mainly an aviation base and training center from what I remember.

Anyway, let me know if you have any questions that I can help out with.

Tony

Default Thanks Tony

Hi Tony,

Thank you for responding to my post. Congratulations on your retirement. My husband is currently in the Navy and contemplating either getting out in 2009 or switching to the Coast Guard. At this point we are gathering information. My biggest question would be if the time out to sea is about the same as the Navy, more, or less. My husband is currenlty on shore duty but previously was on a submarine. One year he was gone 300 of 365 days. There were times he would be out for 2 mos back for a couple of weeks and then gone again...etc. Not that this isn't expected, however life is a little different now that we have small children. He wants to be able to be here with us and not be out to sea as much. The recruiter we talked to only said that the deployment is 3 mos versus 6 mos, however others have told me they can be up to 8 mos depending on the boat. The recruiter has also said he would have to lose some rank as well.

Any information you can provide would be of great help.

Thank you sir,

Jen

Default Aviation

My husband is stationed in Elizabeth City, but he is in aviation. He recently switched to the Aircraft Repair & Supply Center. Please feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions. This is our second tour here, and we like it. It's a small town with a nice feel, but is only an hour away from Virginia Beach (great for shopping, etc). It is also only about an hour from the Outer Banks (we love the beach). I just happened upon this website, so I'm not sure if I will be checking this thread again to see if you reply. So, you are more than welcome to contact me at (252) 268-8526. My name is Darlene. If I can't answer your questions, my husband probably can. Or I can get you in touch with some other Coasties in the area. Good Luck!
