I may be moving to Taberna this summer with my two children. I would appreciate any information regarding the public school system and community activities for kids ages 12-18. We really enjoy the area beaches and have visited New Bern/Morehead City/Beaufort several times. NC seems like it would be a great place to live, but I just want to be sure my kids will be happy there. Also, I am a nurse, and would appreciate info regarding the job market and pay scales. Thanks!

Sorry no one has responded, I will do the best I can.

Taberna is pretty much a subdivision on a golf course. Homes are nice, some very nice, all are decent. The people that live there tend to tell you they do pretty quickly in conversation, so I guess those that live there are right proud of it. The place is very neat and clean. No junkers or washing machines on the front porch, that is for sure.

My daughter has numerous friends that live there. We were there one day this week picking her up and saw 8-10 couples walking their dogs at sunset.

There are a good number of Marines (I expect officers or possibly very senior enlisted living there so that should be considered a plus.

I teach four or five kids that live there, though our school is not in their district. They come to Havelock. All of those kids (middle schoolers) are well mannered, and show right much upbringing. I have met and talked with most of the parents, and they too seem fine.

I am not sure the "normal" school. We only have one high school in New Bern. My two girls go there, but it is not the best. My eldest daughter did, however, just get accepted into every college she applied for, including some pretty restrictive ones, so it ain't all bad.

New High is very sport centric. THey routinely hold state championships in many sports.

There will eventually, maybe, be a new high school built in the vicinity of Taberna, but I doubt you children will see it.

Can't help with pay scales of nurses, but Craven County Med Center is decent. I was in last year, and walked out. There are a number of physician groups and we know right many folks in health care and they move around as they choose.

Hope this helps.
