Those roundabouts are way overdue right now. They should really start doing the construction on w 5th st. They did phase I, but we are still waiting for II, III, and IV. Nice pictures, jpirate!

Excellent news jpirate. I've always thought those old train tracks would make an excellent pedestrian pathway between streets in the Dickinson corridor.

Another interesting tidbit
The city council next week will be hearing a proposal about ANOTHER boutique hotel on Evans street!

The empty "hammock" lot in front of the parking deck, directly across the street from Uptown Brewing Co.

Some info starts around page 107

@tolbs17 you'll be happy to know that the 5th street improvements will likely be completed first. Those projects have been at the finish line for many years--they are "shovel-ready" in every aspect of the word and only need funding to pay contractors for construction. could very well see those next year.

cannot overstate the importance of this grant. that 15M figure represents total cost to complete each project depicted--some are done (like 5th Street) but for construction, others are still in the planning phases, but all have been completely funded through to completion with this award. BUILD is like a startup incubator for bike/ped and multimodal projects because it cuts out all of the state/federal red tape and allows cities to get down to business (still must complete environmental review, etc., but no longer require multiple levels of approval and competition in addition).

Sears just announced another round of closures and Greenville's store finally made the list.

I'm surprised they lasted this long. Every time I go by it, it looks deserted.

This is great news. Here is the excerpt from the Council write-up...

proposing the development of a boutique style hotel with a rooftop bar and lounge on the Evans
Street site. The hotel would be a minimum 3-star hotel with between 60 and 90 guest
rooms. The developer's investment in the project is projected to be between $16 and
$19 million and produce annual property taxes of between $62,000 and $74,000. The
project is projected to result in an increase of approximately 90 to 120 people in the
Uptown district on a daily basis, thereby providing a direct economic impact to all
business in the center city.

If you have this one on Evans, and another one on Dickinson, and then still the Alumni hotel project through ECU, you have just created a much better downtown Greenville. A destination place.

Clarendon properties is listed as the developer, they are from Wilmington and do lots of hotel projects...

This is positive news IMO for the 11 Galleria shopping center. There is just so much underutilized surface parking. This may make way for new development, like what is happening at the former Sears in Independence Mall in Wilmington.

Crazy idea time. Have the city purchase the Sears lot to tear down and build a multi purpose stadium. Parking is plentiful, and the remaining shopping center could be developed to feature a more "downtown" like atmosphere around the stadium.

Im of the opinion that with beer sales now allowed on campus that Greenville can just utilize the existing facilities or invest in better ECU facilities rather than build something city owned. IMO, it would be a waste of taxpayer money. Costco would be the best thing that could go there, especially with all of the land behind the center. Could always try Home Depot again.

I do hope they figure out a parking deck on Dickinson rather than the surface parking proposed for the Imperial lot but WOW what a third quarter for UpTown! Three hotels and the BUILD grant!! I'm crossing toes and fingers that the One Stop Building is revived somehow.
