I have been all through Wilmington and love the Riverwalk area of Downtown.
It scares me that so many of the houses are rented and not owner occupied.
It also scares me that the crime rate is high in that area..

Has anyone considered and looked at Leland? I looked into Magnolia Greens and Brunswick Forest..

Thanks for any input..

I'm moving to Leland this month after we close on the house. It's not in either of those two subdivisions since they were out of our price range. But it isn't far from there either. I've heard lots of GOOD things the week I was down in Wilmington househunting about Leland. The ONLY down side was if you work on the Wilmington side, the traffic CAN get bad if there is an accident on the bridge. Liz

Congratulations!!! The sales center told me Leland was 29th in growing cities across the country.. I am def going to check it all out.. I would rather spend less, but don't know of any other communities.. Where did you end up??

Thanks and good luck..

Depends on what you want in the way of a house. I found one in a subdivision called River Ridge @ Old Towne Place. It's a newer (houses are 3-5 years old) in the back of an older subdivision.

If you would like, I can PM you the links I used to find a house (other than realtor.com). Glad to help any way I can. Liz

Default Crime Rate

Don't get it messed up, you might hear about the crime rate in Wilmington Downtown, that is not Leland. I am from there, I live further out now, but the crime rate? Please Downtown Wilmington just had a lockdown at their downtown schools yesterday because of a call in.

I just bought a new home in Brunswick Forest. It is being built as I speak and I am very excited. I have visited the area many times before making the decision and found nothing bad to say about the area. Hopefully will feel the same way once I move there! Coming from New Jersey, I would say the crime situation is similar in nature.

I'm looking at Brunswick Forest and Compass Point. Any thoughts? Does anyone know about high schools - Public or Private? Jobs in education?

Compass Pointe is in the middle of nowhere. Personally, I wouldn't live in Leland because of the commute over the bridge but Brunswick Forest, Magnolia Greens and Waterford are in a far superior area with respect to commercial amenities than Compass Pointe. If you want rural, then Compass Pointe might be a good fit. As far as jobs, there are basically none in Leland unless you're content with minimum wage work.

Until the Police Dept., can get a grip on the drugs and alcohol problem prevalent in downtown Wilmington, I too would be scared living there, and I lived in DC for over 20 years. However, I choose communities, that were less drug infested and never had a problem. This will be true in any city you live in.
If you want to live in Wilmington, close to the city, but not in the city, there are wonderful communities to consider.
Leland offers wonderful communities as well, however, the bridge traffic at times can be problematic.
Your choice will all depend on your price range, desired amenities, commute to work, beaches, shopping etc.
There are Realtors on this forum who would be happy to assist, however, we are not allowed to solicit.
There truly is something here for everyone, and we try to tailor our searches and assistance to what will best fit the Buyers needs and wants.
