Thank you all for the feedback and honesty, I appreciate it a lot. I am not concerned with hot weather, I can handle it! It is the reason I am leaving Washington--I can not stand anything colder than 80 degrees without wearing a sweater freezing and being grumpy. We are looking all over N/S Carolina and even parts of coastal Florida.

Hi angelgardner! I am amazed at all the different answers you are getting from the various locations.
I am a "Carolina Girl," and have lived in North Carolina my entire life. We have traveled extensively, but I
always love coming home. When you have moments of free time, each state has a "visit" site that promotes what's available. The Hampstead-Sneads Ferry area is in your price range and the commute to either Wilmington or Jacksonville is reasonable. The real-estate market in our area has been similar to the rest of the country. Our area is affordable and beautiful, but like everyone here suggests, come for a visit!

peppermintpatt...thank you for your honesty, it seems to be hard to find in other forums in places like Georgia and Florida---obviously friendliness is more common in the Carolina's as well. LOL!!!

Go to mapquest and put in Wilmington, NC.

You can move around from there.

Nc has 4 different coasts. Starting fro the north there is The Outer Banks. Moving south you have the Topsail Beach area which is just norh of Wilmington.

Then you have the beaches south of Wilmington, Writesville, Carolina Beach etc.

The land acually runs east/west from there all the way to South Carolina. Some are oak island, Holden Beach, Ocean Isle and Sunset Beach.

Check them out on the map and plan your trip from there.

Good luck
