I see more then a few hotels in my price range(which is around 160 a night) but not sure what ones or where to stay. Is there any place with a board walk? most hotels I see just look like they are on a beach. Thanks
They are pretty much beach-front, no boardwalk in the Outer Banks (Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk). Can't recommend one over another as we've always rented cottages, I guess you can go by reviews and recommendations, would just google for specific names, it's a great place, not a ton of action but some nice restaurants and other things to do (would search here, I know a lot has already been posted).
We were looking to go and I found the best deal at the Travelodge at Kill Devil Hills. They had 2 queen beds (vs. a double bed), smoke-free rooms, kitchenettes (or at least a microwave and mini-fridge).
I've stayed at several of the hotels in the Kittyhawk/KDH/Nagshead area. The Ramada Inn in KDH was pretty nice and I also stayed at the Nagshead Inn in KDH just past the Dunes. There's a couple of Comfort Inns both which should be pretty decent. I stayed at one of them and it was adequate. There's a New Hilton which would probably be a little "pricey" but nice that's in Kittyhawk. If you like Inns there's an Inn called the First Colony Inn that is really nice. There's also the Surfside Hotel that is very nice.
I don't know what prices you are looking at but $160 sounds low for summer fare. If you are looking at average annual prices be aware that the summer prices are much much more expensive than the winter ones thus making the average much lower than the summer actual. Hope this helps.
Actually, the Travelodge I mentioned was only around $165/night--4 nights, with tax included would have been $660.58.
The Days Inn-Mariner at Kill Devil Hills was going to be $597.86--that's $149.47/night....these prices were for Aug. 4-8.
