I'd like to make a big change in my life at 51 years old. I'm healthy and I'm ready to live. I've been a graphic artist for 30 years and I also have some great photographic equipment. What I'm asking I guess is; Are there any graphics/advertising/photography people here on the forum? And Where would be a good, inexpensive neighborhood to move to. I'd like to live near the coast or downtown but I might have to settle for something else until I establish some freelance customers. I also do standup comedy. I guess I shouldn't quit my day job though. Thank you for any help you can give me.

It's interesting that you do stand-up comedy - a great love of mine. You might be interested to know that the stand-up comedy scene is currently booming in Wilmington. Here's a recent article from the Wilmington Star News:

AND, following is a link to the Myspace page of a lady by the name of Brooklin Greene. She is a super-sweet gal who heads the local comedy scene. She has an extensive background in stand-up and sketch comedy, and teaches several levels and kinds of classes yearly. She also hosts a Second City Improv workshop yearly, which is taught by members of Second City.

You might consider contacting her if you want to find out more - and, while you're at it, pick her brain about the questions you asked on this thread. She seems to be pretty well-connected in Wilmington.

Good luck!

I suggest requesting information through the greater Wilmington chamber of commerce. I just did and already received emails from two separate realtor's with apartments and houses for rent. Not to mention whatever they send in the mail.

Thanks you guys. I did a standup set last night in a packed house in Greensboro. I've reached the stage where I'm in need of lessons or some kind of direction. But my life has a lot of other problems too. I'll contact the chamber. I've already contacted one realtor and gave her guidlines on what I'm looking for. Now I need to find work or a business to start. Any ideas or partners out there?
