Oddly, there are no hostels in NC but are there any places on the beach for one person with low prices?

-I've also noticed there are no major resorts. Just houses and villa style condos. The NC coast seems severely underdeveloped. I assume this is a political issue but so many opportunities are being missed.

"The NC coast seems severely underdeveloped"

HHmmm...............Socrates, are you possibly applying the "Socratic Method" with your query? For most would expound in great detail to the contrary.

Do tell.

Doesn't seem underdeveloped to me. Looks like they've built 3-story houses on every square inch of Wrightsville Beach, from where I'm sitting.

3 story houses?

I didn't say undeveloped, I said underdeveloped which means relatively speaking. I think its fair to consider NC with SC and Florida the best beach coastlines in the country but theres a huge difference in the scale of development. I'm hard pressed to find a single resort in nc while there are neverending rows of them in the other states. Some are top of the line 5 stars. Some or lowly and affordable but in NC...only 3 story houses?

God please don't develop like Florida did. Concrete jungles and ruined coastlines. It's nice to go places where you can actually see the beach!

Ah yes-The grey area of defining what is meant.

Person A-Any structure along the coast line is over-development. Person B-Any condo means over-development. Person C-Anything over 5 stories high is over-development. Person D-Dairy Queens & Putt-putt's along the coast is over-development. Person E- Well-You get the idea.

Who's standards apply? Who's standards are correct? Are these standards for development universal? Are they timeless? Or will the standard for what is considered over-developed change in some time in the near future?
