Howdy everyone! Me and my gf are lookin at living somewhere on the beach or near the beach where we can see the beach(or walk to the beach) in north carolina. We want to live near a big city cause she is in pr business and needs to be near a big city for work when i say big city 30 thousand and up should be fine but bigger would be better and such. We do not want to live in a big city tho we were thinkin maybe a beach town or a little city near a big city that we can commute to, as long as we can see the beach or live on the beach or walk to the beach so a list of big cities and a list of lil cities or beach towns and such would be great thx yall for your time!
Well, in NC, as far as larger coastal towns, you're limited to Wilmington, population 76,000, or Myrtle Beach with a population of 31,000. Both are 2-4 hours away from the large cities of NC such as Charlotte or Raleigh.
Take a look at an on-line map or road atlas to see the coast of NC--you'll see mostly smaller towns.
If you want larger populations, you might consider Charleston SC with a population of 348,000 or Savannah, GA with a population of 205,000.
Other than that you'll have to go further south to Florida to find larger cities, or north to Baltimore, New Jersey, Virginia, Boston, etc.
Wilmington's population is well over 100,000. 2009 Cencus data shows a population of 192,538 for New Hanover County which includes Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach and the suburban areas that aren't inside the Wilmington city limits.
price range isnt a huge issue cause we arent gunna buy a house right away prolly live in a apartment but i would say anywhere between 200 grand to 400 grand
As others say, Wilmington is all there is like that in NC; you might look just north or south of the state line to Virginia Beach/Norfolk, or Myrtle Beach. Both are much larger metro areas that are right on the beach. Does it HAVE to be specifically NC for some reason?
My husband and I just moved from NY and are renting a 3br, furnished, duplex ocean front in North Topsail Beach for $800, per month all all included. We are only about 45 minutes to Wilmington and the commute is an easy one until you get into Wilmington where the traffic picks up. It is fairly remote here. There are a few stores on the Mainland, Sneads Ferry and also on the Island in Surf City. Jacksonville which is about 30 minutes away(an easy ride, no lights or traffic until Jacksonville) has a mall, walmarts, target, ect. We LOVE it. The beach is so beautiful and living here is sooo relaxing. Its a great place to consider. We were researching on this site for over a year and were really surprised at how welcome everyone we've met has made us feel. The locals are the most polite, friendly, people we have ever met or imagined. It's definitely worth considering and We have seen a few older oceanfront duplexes for under $300 k and there are also plenty of homes for rent.. Good Luck!!!
