Hi all. Well, my husband is in the coast guard and is due to be transferred next year. Morehead city is one of the available positions.. Can anyone tell me more about it? I have been there before but its been awhile. Is there anything to do there? It seems like such a small town.. Are there any bigger chain restaurants? I know havelock and beaufort are close cities.. Do they have much? Also what is the school system like? I have a 6 year old son with autism.. I also have a 17 month old daughter who I would like to find a decent preschool for in the future.. I will also be looking for a speech therapist for my son.. I appreciate any info you all can give me. Thanks!!

jennifer

My wife works in the mental health area snd she could help you with a referral for your son...

Morehead City is very nice...about 7500 people...plenty of big name stores and resturants...

Eat at Bojangles. There are about 80 of them on the way there.

MHC has built up in the last 5 years or so. If you have been gone longer than that, you will be stunned driving in on 70. We are in New Bern and I say about every day, I wish we had settled in MHC instead.

Morehead has exploded actually especially around the walmart area. Wish New Bern would grow like that.

Just keep in mind that life in Eastern NC in general is slower. If you're use to the trappings of a fast paced larger urban area and enjoy it, Morehead may be a little too sleepy. If you're looking to slow down and simplify, it can be a great place.

Put that statement in stone! Even with the growth Morehead City has experienced of late-It's still a small town. Morehead's population is only around 8,000 people in comparison to Wilmington which just passed the 100,000 people mark this year.

Sounds like my kind of area. We just moved out of our "small town" of about 6000. Wal-Mart put it on the map. MHC sounds like a big area, but from the comments, I'm guessing it'll be a good fit. Are there any cons to living in that area?
thanks so much everyone!
