Yeah, the Big12 is pretty much washed up right now, though the Big10 might even be worse. The two best conferences in football are the SEC and the PAC 12. I think the PAC12 is actually probably a stronger conference from top to bottom, but I'm still not convinced that the elite of PAC12 would beat the elite of the SEC.

The Big12 might not want to admit it, but it needs Texas to be a contender again. When that happens, when you see a change in philosophy at UT with more emphasis on physical defense and offensive line play, you'll see the rest of the conference stop the flag football offense. If I'm Texas, I'm throwing some serious freakin jack at Mike Gundy. I'm an LSU guy and I'd fire Les Miles right freakin now to get that guy - and I'd dread it like hell if a school like Florida got him first. That guy is the real deal.

I get the respect that people have for Bill O'Brien; I'm just not sure that Penn State's a great barometer. There's a lot of unknowns about that situation.

Well, it didn't help Texas to lose its starting QB in the 2nd game, the #1 RB a month ago, plus the top two LBs, the best DT, a starting OT, and a key reserve DT.

But then again, Texas Tech - pummeled by UT - turns around and whips ASU butt.

Go figure.

That Texas Tech freshman they decided on played a whale of a game. They are reporting that the Florida State coach's contract allows him to accept if Texas offers;not confirmed and not like to be really until announced who it is.

No official word yet.

But he looks like a really good hire at this point.

I don't see why Jimbo would leave? He has a good thing going at FSU; booster support, top recruiting classes and a solid staff. I know money talks but how much is enough? $5 million a year? $10 million? $20 million?

Rumor is that some big boosters don't like the Strong hire...maybe he is too tan for their liking??? Heard he's an excellent recruiter.

FWIW I think Gruden is a has been and would have been a terrible hire.

See my last post in the Strong thread.

McCombs & Jamial are only embarrassing themselves.

There is a group of a dozen VERY wealthy boosters who are backing Patterson & Strong.
