I said months ago that TCU would join the Big East and people laughed at me. I also said Nebraska would join the Big Ten if given an invite for 20 years. No one believed me. I love it.
I suspect that if TCU does join the Big East then they should bring Houston also. This gives a travel partner for the non-revenue sports. So when WVU comes to town for a baseball game they can play both schools on the same trip. That should save on travel costs and time away form class.
I don't think Villanova will join. I went to 'Nova. There isn't much interest in it. It is inconceivable that 60-70 thousand people will show up for a game on Saturday to watch Villanova. No matter how good they might eventually be. Philadelphia is a pro town. Coolege teams can't sell tickets in pro towns. See Minnesota, Northwestern, Miami, Boston College. Washington Huskies are the only exception I can think of.
Villanova is 4-0 all-time in football against the mighty, mighty Florida Gators. And we won the 1-AA football title last year, beating the Montana Grizzlies. A team many thought was unbeatable. I'm a homer. LOLs.
TCU (and Houston) would be a nice add for the Big East, but I would go after the Big 12 North schools if I were them. I think Missouri, Kansas, K-State and Iowa State would jump at the chance to join the Big East. Especially since the Big Ten doesn't appear to making a run at the BE.
I agree Nova in the Big East for football would be a tough sell; their stadium is small and Philly is PSU Football country. Maybe they could play at the link but the attendance might only be slightly better than Temple.
Though they did give it a go in the 60's and 70's, the days of Howey Long
To me the Big East is and pretty much always will be a Basketball conferance

The Big East is a much stronger basketball conference than football - I'll give you that. But it also has some high quality football schools with rich traditions and often nationally-ranked programs. You really can't take anything away from programs like West Virginia, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, etal, and the recent rise to national prominence for the recently 1-AA UConn. There is nothing wrong with the Big East - other than I hate them.
I do think Nova will move up to the Big East, possibly along with the new program at Georgetown. Those schools will attract high-quality athletes to their football programs just like they do with their other athletic programs, and eventually will have some decent teams.
I wish the ACC could trade Boston College for West Virginia...each of those is a much better fit athletically for the other.
Why can't TCU join the Big XII?? I don't know a lot about the conference...but they seem like they'd be a solid fit.
Along those lines, why isn't Rice in the BigXII? I've always wondered that. They are awesome at Baseball...that fits. They would bring in prestige and a HUGE RESEARCH ENDOWMENT. Is the only thing holding them back, football and their size?

BECAUSE THE BIG XII WON'T LET THEM ENTER.
Texas, Texas A&M, and Tech will block it out as soon as it's mentioned. And TCU hates the Big XII. There's just too much bad blood there....

The issue is that they bring in no new markets which is a driving force in any expansion plan. This is also why anyone thinks that if the SEC goes to 16 they invite Florida State, Miami, Clemson, and Georgia Tech is a bit foolish for the same reason. Any conference is going to look for teams in states that don't have a team in that conference. The only exception is Notre Dame but at this point they will never join the Big Ten, especially after what BYU did.
I think it's a done deal as it's the best available situation for TCU and The Big East. That's going to be one big ass geographical conference; Texas, Conn, and Florida schools all in one conference...might as well just add Boise State, too.

Oddly enough there are many Bronco fans who are lobbying for that idea.
Before you think it sounds too crazy remember that we have to fly to Ruston, LA and to Hawaii for games. That's a big footprint. Travel in the MWC and WAC is far more vast than any other conference.
However, I absolutely cannot see this happening. At all.
1. Why would the other Big East teams want to fly to Boise?
2. Boise adds nothing as a basketball program, so it would be football only - is that good or bad for the Big East?
3. Why would the Big East want Boise State when it can add Houston or UCF - better recruiting, more televisions, closer travel?
Boise State gets jobbed like no other program. Finally make a move to what would have been the 4th best BCS conference (MWC), and the top 3 teams all leave. Ha ha.

It makes sense for football, in my opinion. Not sure if the Big East "heavy weights" WVU and Pitt would be crazy about the idea and basketball would definitely be a deal breaker. There's a lot of weird stuff going on so I guess it's not unfathomable but it's also probably not likely.
The ACC may have their eyes on Pitt in the future and even WVU. I just think the Big East needs to be bold if they plan on staying relavent as a football conference.
I pretty much agree that TCU's goin'. I'd say U of H is next, but it's still up in the air.....
