The Mountain West Conference is petitioning the BCS to give them an automatic bid to a BCS game.

Thoughts?

The Mountain West agreed to the current system. I have ZERO sympathy for them.

However, I do think they are deserving of some preferred treatment in the BCS. Compare the Mountain West and Big East. If one of those is a BCS conference, they both should be.

That is my thought as well. If the Big East gets and automatic bid, why not the Mountain West.

As a TCU fan I just have to say....

SWEET!

The Frogs should still be in the Big XII.

they should have a competition between the weakest bcs conference vs the strongest non-bcs conference

Like the first two games of the season will be against each other, and whoever has the best overall record will get the auto bid for that years bowl series

They should strip the Big East of their auto-birth and have one more at large...or possibly a play-in game (wishful thinking)

Sagerin 2008 conf rankings
1 SOUTHEASTERN (A) = 78.31 79.08 ( 1) 12
2 BIG 12 (A) = 77.86 77.80 ( 2) 12
3 ATLANTIC COAST (A) = 77.70 77.67 ( 3) 12
4 PAC-10 (A) = 76.14 75.39 ( 4) 10
5 BIG EAST (A) = 75.23 74.11 ( 5) 8
6 BIG TEN (A) = 73.21 73.49 ( 6) 11
7 MOUNTAIN WEST (A) = 70.90 71.72 ( 7) 9

Strip the Big East!!! You all have lost your mind!! OK, Utah has won 2 BCS games in the last 4 years, I will give them that. But what exactly is the problem? They made it to a BCS game!! You guys really think SDSU, Wyoming, UNLV, New Mexico, should have an AUTOMATIC bid to the BCS if they win the Conf?? NO way. That conference is CREAMPUFF, lately there has been only 3, yes, 3 solid teams from that conf. and that's very recently.

Every BCS conf> MWC

What Utah should do is join the PAC 12 along with BYU. Realignment would be better than to give the sorry *** MWC an auto bid.

Flame On!!!

You could say the same thing if someone like Cincinnati wins the Big East. How is a team that got crushed by Oklahoma more deserving than UNLV if they had a miracle season?

The problem is they don't play anybody. If they get an auto bid, some team in the MWC will always go to a BCS game, and for what? Because they beat a bunch of nobodies???

Compare the teams in the MWC to any auto bid conference, and you'll see why the Mountain West gets no auto-bid.

Of course they should get an automatic berth. The top two teams in the MWC this last season were both better than Cincinnati or Virginia Tech.
If Wyoming wins their conference...they should have the same opportunity at a bowl as Baylor would if they won the Big 12. Why do I make that comparison? Because obviously neither of those teams will ever actually win a conference championship. In reality, only 2-3 teams in each conference have a legitimate chance at winning their conference championship each year. In the MWC, it will be Utah, BYU, and TCU pretty much every year. All three showed they can compete with the big-money conferences this season.
