The best thing about this is, I don't HAVE to do this after this year.

...ok, I don't even have to do this now, but you get what I'm saying. After years and years of b.s., Division I-A football will have a real playoff system. But first, it's the annual Fictional playoffs for City-Data Forum. Take your pick...

Here's this year's bracket.

Round one begins now. Who ya got?

(Remember, only chose ONE team from each 4 match-ups)

First Round

- #1 Florida State vs. #8 Missouri
- #2 Auburn vs. #7 Ohio State
- #3 Bama vs. #6 Baylor
- #4 Michigan State vs. #5 Stanford

He had to get in his Alabama / Auburn prediction. He just can't handle that Auburn beat Alabama this year.

Nah, I'm an LSU guy, not a Bammer fan, so it doesn't really bother me in terms of school pride. The problem is that Alabama's the best team in the SEC and they got caught in a rare moment of slack-jawed-ness. I want the best to represent the SEC, and Auburn ain't it.

I base that pick on the fact that Nick Saban would not lose a second game - he just wouldn't. He would make the adjustments and they would dominate Auburn. Trust me -- we had to face Saban twice in the same year. Auburn's lucky they don't have to. Not complaining, though, because LSU's had some good luck along the way (2007 comes to mind). I don't begrudge Auburn's fortune; I just don't think they're the best product the SEC could be putting up against FSU.

Well, I guess the issue here is the depiction of Saban as some kind of unstoppable juggernaut. He's not. Auburn is 6-6 against Saban, 3-4 while he's been at Alabama. To me, the coaches who have Auburn's number are Les Miles and Mark Richt, not Saban.

FSU would roll over Mizzou. 45-24 Noles
I'm tempted to pick Ohio State as they have the firepower to match Auburn blow-for-blow (neither team sports a great defense), but AU has the momentum, while tOSU does not. MSU took the wind out of their sails. 38-31 Tigers
Alabama over Baylor in a laugher. 37-17
Michigan State and Stanford is easily the most intriguing matchup of the group as both are defense-oriented and rely on the ground game to move the chains. Stanford sports a better offense, but Sparty has the edge on D. When in doubt, pick the team with the better defense. MSU 20, Stanford 17.

First Round

- #1 Florida State vs. #8 Missouri Florida St
- #2 Auburn vs. #7 Ohio State Auburn
- #3 Bama vs. #6 Baylor Alabama
- #4 Michigan State vs. #5 Stanford Michigan St

Auburn then over Fla St
Alabama over Mich St

Alabama wins it.

Still think they are the best team this year. How many times would any team run back a FG like that to win a game?
