I think Sumlin deserves plenty of credit for Manziel's success even if he didn't recruit him. Sumlin was the HC for 2 of the 3 years Manziel was on campus.
But I don't know which three NFL QBs can be credited to Sumlin with Manziel included. Ryan Tannehill was definitely a Mike Sherman player. Sumlin developed Case Keenum.
Actually he was a Chip Kelly recruit and commit. Of course, it was predictable he would bolt to the Aggies when offered. Oh well, guess we we just have to settle for Mariota.
I read on the ESPN ticker that there are now three de-commits from Texas since the Strong hire! Add to that public booster criticism!
I wrote on other thread about certain types of coaches getting opportunities. Now, one has to wonder whether those opportunities are always the correct directions to go in!
In many instances, it's a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't! Don't take the opportunities, and one gets criticized for not taking them! Take the opportunities, and one runs the risk of lack of support! Those are real issues that need to be discussed regarding hiring coaches from certain backgrounds!
It's not abnormal for recruits to decommit when you have a coaching change. In fact, i'd decommit too until i knew how i'd fit under the new coach's system.
Check out how many players decomitted to Florida after they KEPT their coach.
Coach Boom is lucky to still be there.
