As a Florida State fan I will be thrilled when this becomes official. Not sure if Strong is making the right move. Sure he will get a huge raise but long term, Texas is a tough place to coach. Tons of booster pressure.
Wish him well if he takes the job; he's done wonders at Louisville.
He will have to deal with it like any top college you have to and he will be paid well to do it. Other than that don't take a top college head coaching job ;plain and simple.
He looks like a good hire. Hope he tells our new AD Patterson to keep those boosters away and let him coach.
I liked Strong when he was supposedly a candidate for the A&M job. As a football coach of young men - I think he is a great choice. I worry though about his fit in the UT quagmire. He will struggle if he has to suck up to the power people, play golf tournaments and tape stupid shows for the Longhorn network. Let him coach football and he could be very successful. I applaud UT for hiring from outside - and for hiring a black coach (finally).
I'll guess now that press conferences will be very different with Strong. He won't talk about the team's success on 3rd and short like Mack did. For how many months will he have to thank Mack, deLoss, and DKR for anything he might accomplish on his own?
Strong is an exceptional coach. That being said, I'm worried that Texas will chew him up and spit him out. It really takes a coach of Saban's credentials and gravitas to stare down that bunch of boosters.
I am not surprised they are saying he was the only one they asked so as to preserve their ego in that they could not land Saban.
I went to the DFW area a long time ago and was shocked at how different Texas was. Like another world almost
