Big 10 has been struggling for some time. It's sad to see the Michigan football program regress as far as it has. Other conference teams are dropping games that would have been won easily years ago. I can't put my finger on it but am wondering if weather has anything to do with recruiting players. Some of the schools have tougher academic standards (if they actually apply to athletes in practice) that could hinder decisions to come.

Michigan will bounce back with the right head coach. Both Penn St and Rutgers will surpass Michigan for now.

It's about more than the head coach. The wheels were coming of the wagon before Lloyd bolted. Something must be going on behind the scenes within the entire football program. When they hired Rich Rodriguez, he wasn't even a top 3 target. No one wanted to come and there must be reasons why.

Could it be the AD? Some think so. However, I don't see the credentials in the current coach that I would have expected to see in that type of hire.
What can you do? They're like a hideous stepchild, repulsive to look at but you still have to love them. Come bowl season their fans travel so well for a couple reasons. One...Tampa, Orlando, etc are a great getaway from the frozen tundra in January and two...the Outback, Citrus and other mediocre bowls are of little interest to 3rd or 4th tier SEC team fans whose team is usually playing for a much bigger prize. If an LSU or Auburn has a bad year, very few of their fans will bother showing up for a Big 10 opponent.
As I mentioned in another thread, Michigan is losing booster money from the Big 3 car places and they will drop. OSU is losing related jobs from Ohio the chips will shift. PSU has been a wannabe ever since they joined conference. Best teams are Mich St, & Badgers.
Do you have any data the suggests the auto companies were paying Michigan recruits or are you speculating on the commonly held belief that college athletes are paid and that in Michigan it must be the auto giants that pay them?

Blame Michigan St coach Mark Dantanio. Better players now want to play for Michigan State thus the rise of his team and the demise of Michigan. He gets all the star recruits from Michigan and northern Ohio and Indiana and it used to be they are went to Michigan.
Rich Rod was over rated and hurt the recruiting of players that will be felt for a while. Current coach is not head coach material, lots of bad calls, mistakes etc.
