Texas, Oklahoma are programs going downhill fast with Baylor and TCU reaping the benefits. USC will be back, UCLA is getting better and Oregon purchased players to come to Oregon and it failed. The money Oregon probably put under the table to get those fake track stars was wasted.
USC *will* be back, as will Texas. Some schools, like Ohio St., will always have the potential to be competitive because of their alumni. I think OSU is like in the top five of alumni pools in the nation, with Michigan being another one. They don't have geography on their side, though they've got better high school football than the Pacific NW and other more remote parts of the country. But even if they're not in Florida, if they get the right coach, that can change quick. Schools like OSU will always be attractive to big name coaches, not just because of the tradition but because of the support. I am pretty certain Michigan will be right there with OSU in another year or two. I'm an SEC guy but that Michigan-OSU rivalry is long overdue.
Who is your favorite team and why did you not compete in the CD playoff picks?
West Coast and Texas teams along with Oklahoma etc will have a tough time recruiting better players as time goes by.

SEC won 7 of what 12 National Championships? It was not by mistake.
I have witnessed SEC games in person and until you see one in person you cannot even talk about the SEC. It is amazing to see the atmosphere in those stadiums.
I have watched west coast and Texas teams play, not exciting, actually boring atmosphere.
The best football teams are on the east coast period.
Oregon has won at least 10 games each of the last 7 seasons, including 2 trips to the National Title game. All in all, I would say they've had a pretty good run as of late. If Oregon has failed, then 98% of the other teams have also failed.
Here's something to think about - if we did not have a 4 team playoff, we would have had an Alabama-Florida State title game. Both of those teams were handled fairly easily in the semifinals. Makes you wonder how many past champions would not have won if there were a playoff, and that relates to other teams besides those in the SEC.
Another point to make - in the last 4 seasons, the SEC sits a 2-7 for BCS/New Year's 6 bowl games. Apart from Alabama's two national titles, the SEC has not done anything in the big bowl games.

Southeastern Conference is the ONLY conference to post winning records in bowl games every single year for the past ten years. It's had the best record in bowl games of all the major conferences (not counting Conference USA, etc) since 2004-5. There's no other way to put it other than to say that the SEC has been the dominant conference. Even when the SEC isn't winning championships, it's winning more bowl games and wins a higher percentage than any other conference.
