At what point do you say I will take a player with moral character over a player with a bit more talent but doesn't care about right from wrong? In my book to many colleges are overlooking a players character just because he is a bit faster or stronger. I remember Miami giving a guy who had 5 arrests a scholarship, I mean 5 arrests in high school. Come on.
well believe it or not there are lots of people out there who have the talent to play college ball, but did not get the chance because of moral decisions
Packers, it is the coaches job to win games..there is so much pressure on the coaches in college athletics, especially football. You have a couple losing seasons, esp at a school like Penn State, you cant even leave your house and are the subject of ridicule, not to mention you will be "run" out of your job, so thats why some coaches would rather pursue a very good, but morally corrupt player vs. a slightly good player who is an excellent citizen.
It's funny how people single out certain schools but they dont look within thier own. I am not a fan of the Big 10 by any stretch of the imagination but its hardly a Penn State only problem.
Miami, FLSU, Florida, Nebraska etc etc etc all have had issues and I'm sure there are 50 more I didnt name.
I don't think RU has too many guys with legal issues. I know Justin Francis did something bad enough to be suspended from spring practice a while back but it was unspecified so it was probably something minor. Same with Dennis Campbell (both are from Florida oddly enough). I know Reggie Dixon was kicked off the team before he even stepped on the practice field too. Schiano puts a lot of stock in character, which may explain why we can't compete with West Virginia
