Is it the coach or the team that matters most?

What happened to Coach Rodriguez from West Virginia, he had a great season with UWV then got the coaching job at Michigan and gave that program their worst season ever.

TO be fair to him he is changing the whole system over there. So I would give him atleast 3 years to have his players in place so they can run the spread.

I think he is an overrated coach myself.

He had talent that won him games at Wva.

Mich is a different story, he had the talent on the field to win more games and just blew it.

I do not see him lasting long, Mich will not put up with this long and I do not see him lasting 3 years.

Texas played like garbage the entire first half, just look at the pass Colt got picked on to end the half. You saw the true Texas football offense on that last drive, if we played like that the whole game we could have had 40 on the board.

Florida did play OU well and yes held them to 14 points, but the also only put up 24 on them. Texas managed to throw 45 on the board when they beat them. So sorry if I dont buy the whole Texas can't beat anyone argument.
Gotta agree with my fellow Big XII guy here. Texas only had one let-down all season, and that was losing to Tech. They could potentially beat anyone in the country.

Well, there are at leat 10 or 15 GREAT coaches who could arguably be on this list. Pete Carrol is arguably #1, and I accept that. He's an amazing coach, and im probably wrong for not including him, so if it satisfies anyone go ahead and place him in my top 5...lol. I guess im a little biased to the south. Schiano although a little set back from progress this season I still see as an amazing coach. I like Skip Holtz, I do not like Spurrier. Who could argue with anyone if they put Jo Pa, or Bowden in here even if they have been lacking lately, their resumes are amazing. Not sure who Utah's coach is now, I see his face, but no name with it (Happens when you get older), but he has supprisingly held the team to post Urban Meyer expectations and beyond, that says alot!

Houston Nutt?!?!
No national championships
No BCS bowl appearances
No SEC conference championships
And he is the best coach in college football?

I have a feeling he will be facing my current #1 Pete Carroll in the BCS Champ next season and that would answer the debate.

1 Carroll-Hard to argue his success
2 Meyer-Case for #1, really a tossup
3 Bowden-Just terrible in BCS games
4 Paterno-Winning coach, not a top recruiter, terrible graduation rates
5 Spurrier-Lacks any recent success
6 Tressel-Needs to win a big game for a change, outside the conference
7 Stoops-see Tressel
8 Saban-Probably low, he will move up over the next few years
9 Brown-1 Conference title, can't be the champ if you can't win the conf.

I'll agree Paterno has problems recruiting because of his age, but your wrong about his graduation rate. 3rd highest among public schools within Div 1A and 7th highest overall of 119 Div 1A schools. These figures are from 2006. I believe they are always in the top 10.
