It seems that Notherners' perception of the South are still largely shaped by the memories of the 60s' Civil Rights Movement. The truth is the South is becoming more and more like the rest of the nation, yet Non-Southerners cherished those black-and white memories, because "they serve as symbols of what notherners would like to think they're not"(To quote Jacob Levenson)
