BTW, Florida Tech - Florida Institute of Technology, which is on your list. They have a large international population and an excellent engineering program. The area where it is located is very friendly, warm all year, and close to the beach.
Are you listing only the ones he got accepted to? wondering why MIT or Georgia Tech are not on the list. Georgia Tech enjoys a wonderful reputation, has mild climate and Atlanta is home to many many international people. Lots to do, easy to get to other places.
UNC at Raleigh? Do you mean N.C,. State University? don't know too much about their engineering program but many successful graduates of all the UNC campuses and State. Here in N.C. we have very mild climate, international airport and huge international population.
I'd avoid anything in Texas.
What type of engineering?
Texas Tech has a pretty popular engineering program. I've known lots of engineers that attended Tech. Lubbock is a very safe town and the people are friendly
Oh, and as for University of North Texas. Their program might be good, but UNT is not known as an engineering powerhouse. They are more known for their music, education, and business. I can't think of a single engineer I've ever met from there and I've been around engineers in Texas and Oklahoma for my entire, very long life.
